Fathi, a child of the Iranian Revolution, is unique in that she is one of the few women in Iran to excel at traditional Islamic calligraphy, a largely male dominated discipline. Her works incorporate her calligraphic training with color and paint into beautiful canvases of abstract art. A parallel can be drawn to some Chinese artists' modern expression of Chinese ink painting and calligraphy. Tradition evolves, East meets West.
