Large investors, urban civic leaders, and project developers alike are all attempting to channel private sector finance and design skills toward beneficial public infrastructure in big cities in large countries. Some of these are showcases like New York and Singapore; and others are fast growing, densely populated urban areas like Sao Paolo, Lagos and Jakarta. Is now the time for technology companies and portfolio investors to look more closely at financing and developing sustainable, resilient cities and infrastructure?

Three trends are driving economic development in the world: massive urbanization, worsening resource scarcity, and the apparent inability of most national governments to invest ahead in cities and infrastructure. But large global pools of capital, coupled with several breakthroughs in technology, are now combining to trigger a new era in private investment in public infrastructure and cities around the world.
